EATAW 2027
(The) Sentimental Value of Writing
Blazhe Koneski Faculty of Philology, Ss Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, North Macedonia
Academic, Regional and Contextual Added Value
Hosting the 2027 EATAW conference at the Blazhe Koneski Faculty of Philology, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, North Macedonia, would broaden current discussions on academic writing by bringing them into a multilingual and underrepresented academic context and fostering more inclusive scholarly exchange.
The Conference will build on EATAW’s long-standing traditions by connecting teachers and scholars of academic writing, strengthening awareness of the importance of teaching academic writing and literacy skills, as well as advancing research in the field. It will provide an engaging forum for the international academic community to exchange ideas and discuss current trends, changing dynamics and developments in the field of Academic writing and literacy in general.
Crucially, the EATAW 2027 Conference will add regional and contextual value, meaning that it will also bring together scholars from the Balkans, where the implementation and development of academic writing programs remain limited, academic writing centers are still largely absent, and sustained institutional support from educational and governmental bodies is still lacking. The conference will provide local researchers and practitioners with the opportunity to participate in an international academic event specialized in writing and academic literacy skills development. In other words, an EATAW conference in this area (North Macedonia and Balkans) will enrich discussions on academic writing through multilingual, peripheral, or non-Anglophone experiences.
As an institution which has strong roots in teaching linguistics and literature, we welcome the interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants, especially the local ones, can explore the links between writing and linguistics, education, literature, communication, or digital humanities. The other expected benefits include increased commitment to academic writing development (writing centers, curriculum initiatives, or staff development programs) and discussions on the engagement with responsible AI use in academic writing.
Let us explore and discuss the sentimental value of writing together!
Looking forward to welcoming you in Skopje (1–3 July 2027 with a pre-conference event on 30 June 2027)
